Instalation/Dual boot problems

Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.6 GHz / 2046 MB
This is how everything started:
I was installing Windows XP. At like 50% there was an error with some file and it wouldn't let me finish installing. Then i installed Windows Vista[what im currently using] with the CD i got with my computer. Now whenever i turn on the PC it shows 2 options. Windows Vista & Earlier version of Windows. When i try turning on the earlier version of Windows it just shows files missing and such[sorry, I'm not very good at computers. Tho am trying to explain this as best i can >_<]. And i was wondering how to make the whole boot selection thingy go away and get the PC to just turn on with Vista. It's extremely annoying. Especially because I'm using a usb keyboard and i have to wait for the timer to run out.

Thanks in advance ^^.

I looked around and didn't find anything about this but i didn't really look that good. So sorry if someone already asked for help with a problem like this.

I really had no idea where to post this so i just posted in the vista section because that is what im currently using >_<.
