Subject: Image HelpOS: Vista BuisnessCPU/Ram: 2GbModel/Manufacturer: Dell Inspirion 9400 |
Comment: Hello All, I was wondering if anyone uses a laptop to image computers. The laptop I have is a Dell Inspirion 9400 w/ Vista Buisness. I really need to find a way to image computers using the laptop. I have 15 locations and 3 or 4 different type of terminals/images. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive tried using Ghost Cast (version 8, I think) but the terminals I am trying to image wont boot onto the network. I get a cannot bind NIC error. Thanks for any information you can give me. Reply: (edit)If you are thinking of deploying the image to 15 workstations, forget it. You need to have Volume licenses. i_XpUser

Reply: (edit)you're wrong ... Ghost 8.x (not talking about the later crappy versions which in fact are Quarterdeck's Drive Image) doesn't care about the OS and it supports network deployment. arconis is a just toy, maybe good enough for home use. Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Reply: (edit)can't find anything about ghost 8.x in that table. besides, it hasn't got anything to do with Vista. Ghost 8 supports not only various file systems (FAT, HPFS, NTFS, Ext2 & 3, etc.) but also sector copies ... regardless what is on the disk or partition. Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Reply: (edit)only this morning i got THIS in my post: http://www.symantec.com/about/news/...
Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 was released in November 2006. This version provides significant improvements in performance, as well as the ability to edit NTFS images. This version also adds support for Windows Vista, x64 versions of Windows, and GUID Partition Table (GPT)-based disks
it comes with Ghost 11.0 (the successor of v8.3) and a 32bit version (the one that has proven to be so useful on Bart's PE disk :-) Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'
