Comment:

There is an annoying problem using IE 7 on Vista.
Everytime i use it the right click option suddenly stops working.
Don't matter where i press the button, on pictures, hyperlinks, even on the background, it just won't work anymore.
To get it to work again i have to either log off the computer and log back on, or i have to restart the computer.

I'm 100% sure that there is something wrong with IE 7 because when i right click on the desktop it works just fine.
I even installed OPERA Web browser, and it works all the time too.

Does anybody know if there is a fix somewhere to the right click problem ?

It's really annoying, because it happends every time i use the IE 7 !

You say, IE7 right-click does not work. But you also say, To get it to work again I have to either log off... or I have to restart the computer. This means it works.

Which is correct ? Does IE7 right-click ever work or not ?

Have you recently installed any IE plug-in or used Registry Cleaners or have you manually attempted to clean the registry yourself ?

Ok, what i ment is that it's working when i open IE 7, but after a few minutes or opening more than 4-5 new tabs, it suddenly stops working.
When that happends it will still work on the background desktop, but not on the explorer itself.

It will not help to shut down the explorer and restart it, i have to log off the computer or restart the computer to get it to work again.

I'm not very good to explain, but i hope you know what i mean !

You did not answer some of my questions such as installing any IE plug-ins, cleaning Registry, installing software or installing Windows updates.

I may suggest you to repair your Windows installation by booting to Vista DVD and choosing Repair option if it will not cause you any inconvenience ? If you have tons of Windows updates, it will be rather cumbersome for you to download all of them again.

I'm sorry for not explaining everything, but i have reinstalled the vista at least 10 times !
There is no plugins installed at the time.

I read on google that many have the same problem and it seems to be some kind of trouble with IE 7 only.
Ie 6 seems to be fine, but i can't install Ie 6 myself.
It says that i already have a newer version installed !

I run into this problem on my IE7 / XP too. I have fired off the task manager prior to the problem and noticed that the memory allocation for IE starts to climb until it is using up almost all available memory. At this point, it appears there is not enough left for it to run correctly. Closing IE tabs and windows does not seem to help so I suspect it is a resource leak bug in IE7. (Memory is not being released when IE is done with it.) If I catch it in time, I can restore features by exiting IE and then restarting it. If I push too far, only logging out and then logging back in seems to free it up.

Hi.
Thx for the reply.
Yeah, what you're telling is exactly the same problem as i have.
After awhile, the only solution is to log off and then log on again.
I hope Microsoft fixes this soon !

In my case, I can surf for a couple of hours before it happens, although I have a lot of memory. I suspect a lot of people don't run into the problem as their IE sessions are not long enough, and they cycle in an out of the program before it reaches the "crash" stage. Who knows! I talked to Microsoft and they offered to sell me the answer for $59 !! Geeeezzz. They know about it, but there is nothing in their knowledge database about it.

Lol, typically Microsoft to charge $59 for an answer :-)

That's why i hate Microsoft !
And another thing i don't understand is why they released Vista, because now they are almost finished making another operative system ???????
I bet there will be about 3-4 more operative system from Microsoft within 2015 :-))

I just wish they'd write ONE that works! I do a lot of IT work, and I could go on for hours about Vista problems, although this problem is IE7 related as it is happening on an XP unit. I noticed the memory climb on other units, but not as fast, so there is also a situational factor involved. It seems to occur faster when surfing PHP based sites, but I don't have enough data to define that as part of the problem. Due to the size of the bloating, my best guess is some form of graphic buffer problem. As graphic heavy sites are often PHP based, that may be the coincidental connection. I have already dumped and reinstalled IE7 on this unit, and it was cleaned of plug ins, but you never know what might be hiding in some dark corner of the registry that might be setting the stage for the problem!

I have the same problem on my BRAND NEW 4 gig of RAM laptop. But I notice one other issue.

If I minimuse IE7 and try to LEFT click on any desktop icon it says 'icon points to a removed program, do you want me to remove the icon'.

I always say NO.

By the way, my right click, at this stage also does not work on the desktop (after IE7 has devoured it (devoured the right click, I mean)

Opening more than seven or so tabs when browsing graphics-intensive web pages results in hanging including the loss of functionability of right-click context menus system-wide. Rebooting resolves the problem until the above activity is repeated. This glitch manifests precisely in the same manner as described by Likeglass, and, I believe, his analysis is correct:

“memory allocation for IE starts to climb until it is using up almost all available memory. At this point, it appears there is not enough left for it to run correctly … I suspect it is a resource leak bug in IE7. (Memory is not being released when IE is done with it.)”

The hypothesis that memory is not being released properly, in my opinion, is telling. My system specs, configuration, and current information is below. I thank all for their time, and hope that we may find an answer to this annoying problem. Regards, VB

Minor update: Last time I had the solid right-click lockout, I exited IE7, restarted it... (same problem), exited it again. For fun, I opened up the task manager and found that even though IE was not running, it was still listed along with a huge memory allotment! I "ended it" as a task, then tried to restart it and it worked ok.
