Hi to all,
although IE7 is not too bad, I prefer to use Maxthon, my choice, my right.
However, it looks impossible to set Maxthon as my default browser. There is an option for that in Maxthon, but it does not work.
And I could not find how to do that within IE.
Does anybody know how to do ?
Thanks in advance for your help - Claude

Open IE. Go to tools, internet options, programs and check Internet Explorer should check if it's the default. Restart IE and check no when it asks.

Hi guapo,
this is the theory... I already explored this track.
Actually, IE does not ask for anything when I open it ! and remains steadily the default browser...
I suppose I have to live with it.
Many thanks anyway - Claude

I suppose I have to live with it.
No you don't or else the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Forces will be all over M$ again :-)
In IE7 > Tools > Internet Options > Programs, there is the option to make/unmake IE7 the default web browser. You can change it as you see fit using the article below as example for your preferred browser. Make sure you also remove the checkmark from Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser.

Hi XpUser,
Thanks for your post.
Theory is one thing, reality is another one.
I am using a French version (nobody's perfect) of VISTA, but its behavior should be the one you describe.
In fact, the panel you mention says (translated from French) :
"Internet Explorer is the web brower by default"
and there is a hotspot (?) labelled "Use by default" which is ineffective and cannot be changed.
Do you believe the program you can a link to will solve this problem ?
Thanks for your help - Claude

Hi XpUser,
further to my last post, please correct the last lines which should be read of course :
"... the program you give a link to ..."
The VISTA OS I am using is the one HP installs on its Pavilion laptops. Could it be that it has some special non standard behavior ???

The “Set program access and computer defaults selection” feature should allow you to do that.
