For a lot of people Windows XP is working just fine. The software works.....it can be customized. I really dont see people flocking to Vista.
I can make my XP look just like Vista right now.
If MS doesnt lower the price to at least what Apple is charging for OS-X. I dont see people shelling out hundreds for an OS that is going to be just as vulnerable to problems as Windows XP.
There might be a few performance enhancements that might attract some people.
I doubt its going to be much more secure or stable than XP.
So except for people buying new computers with Vista already installed. I think MS is going to be surprised how few people lay down the change for this OS version.
Its not going to be the same as going from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95.
Just my two cents worth.

Well I won't be surprise if business & people with money to spend do flock to the stores the day before Vista becomes available.
The reason is very simple & psychological: We are the rats in of Pied Piper of Hamelin (M$). What M$ say is good for us has to be good for us.

If it is of any condolences, Pied Piper of Hamelin will use every advertisement tool known to man. He will make sure the music flow out of the newspaper, magazines, TV commercials, and even your cell phone, to name a few avenues of mass advertisement.
The above is the "psychological" effect I speak of.

I agree with zero244. I'll go on with a new OS when
1 New file system is supported
2 64 bit processor architecture is mandatory
3 Kernel is fully redesigned not only adjusted. Will it be Windows Vista SE (in 2010)?
The coming soon Vista seems to me a replay of the (in)famous DOS based Windows ME.
So stated I agree with XPUser too. People will run to buy as soon as possible!
