my HP windows vista wont accept my password it states I need a floppy disc or a flash drive

The only thing I can think of is that you are trying to use the reset password feature. If you made a floppy or cd (and no one does) then you could put it in to fix your lost password.

I can't think of any other reason windows would ask that.

I can suspect maybe bios would ask for that. Do you see a windows screen or is it text like a typewriter printout. (hope you know what typewriter is)
