Download/install & run CCleaner. Download/install & run MalwareByte's AntiMalware. Run MSCONFIG & disable unnecessary programs from loading at startup.

my girlfriend has the same PC and it started slow. Here are things you can do to speed it up, which i did:

-Adjust the power performance to "High Performance" off of balanced. It increases the speed of the machine.
-You can also (with Vista) buy a 4 GB or 1 GB or whatever thumbnail drive. When you plug it in to the system you will be given a list of options... select "speed up my system with ReadyBoost"... readyBoost is a vista component that allows the computer to use the extra thumbnail drive as RAM.
You can also go in to control panel and performance options and tweak them a bit (take away visualizations, etc).

this week I am going to install the Windows 7 release candidate, and hopefully that will speed up the system, and slow up the fan which is always on for the processor!
