I had a customer just last week with a HP Pavilion dv6140us with almost the same problem. Ran the Hard drive test and it failed bought a new hard drive and ran the Recovery disk and found the same problem after it finished, went into BIOS and ran the test on the new Hard drive and it passed with no problems so then found out that the HP Pavilion dv6140us had a second problem, after talking to HP tech support for a while that model has a defective motherboard and Hp will replace it free of charge.
Not sure if that is the same in your case but replace the hard drive and run the recovery disk and that should solve the problem if not call HP tech support.

i have your laptop. it happened to me as well but just when it was in hibernation...i just installed sp1 and the issue went away...another thing you can just do is to disable sleep mode into power option. basically never let the computer to turn off its hard disk or screen. this thing solved me the trick before installing sp1
