1. Uninstall all of the trialware for one.

2. Use a free program like CCleaner that does a good job at getting rid of left over registry, program and internet garbage files.

3. disabling startup programs automaticly that don't need to be ran on your system all the time and will only run when you run them. This can help greatly improve performance.

To do this go to start/type msconfig in the search box and hit enter. Now a window should open, go to startup tab and you will see a list of startup programs. The program names will be on the left.

Now go to this site and it will tell you what to leave checked and what should be unchecked by typing each file name in its search box.

4. Defrag the hard drive and you are set.

Those b---tards! You can easily optimize Windows Vista by yourself.

Follow the advice given to you by Cobra. Also, take a look at response #4 of this thread:

Ok, so here's what I've done so far:

1. I uninstalled all of the trialware and all of the other ridiculous bul--hit that came with the computer.

2. Ran CCleaner

3. Ran PCDecrapifier

4. Disabled all of the startup programs that I dont need.

5. Turned off windows indexing (which took for ever lol)

6. Turned off Remote Differential Compression

7. Turned off Automatic Windows Defender.

Thank you guys for all your help. Now my question is, since i have Spybot, AVG, windows defender, and the windows firewall (lol) is there a need to pay for something like norton or McAfee, because I've had both in the past and still goten viruses. Are they worth paying for, or can I fully protect my computer with freeware?

No programs like AVG are fine. Norton and Mcafee anti-virues are highly overrated compared to free ones that do just as good of job if not better.

I would guess that you should be logged in as the Administrator to make the changes.

I am logged in as Administrator.
Any further info on how to turn off Indexing.
One Link in the above thread stated goto Start, Rt Click C and then go to Tab General.
Afraid I did not get to the suggested Tab after right clicking.
