How to Retrieve overwritten files

Try this but I don't think it will work. When you delete a file the operating system just "forgets" that it is there. The space is marked as free and eventually another file is pasted over it. If you overwrite it (paste it over it) the operating system just places the new one over the new one. I've done it myself. I'm sorry but because you overwrote it I don't think you can recover it.

Thank you all: I did the soft ware route with no help. However, I'm using window vista, had I been using window vista ultra, there is an option built in to retrieve. Therefore, for your edification, when buying a new computer, said feature should be included. I'm going to try other software next like www.smartsheet.com and Recuva. Merry Christmas.

There is no such thing as recovery of overwritten files. Once a file is overwritten that means the original is gone because the new file occupies less/same/more space than the original. Deleting a file simple marks the space as available which allows for recovery. Since it was not deleted there is nothing to recover. Answers are only as good as the information you provide.
