I've heard some good stuff about it. It supposedly gives Vista a much-needed boost in disk and network performance.

While I know that there's no reason to do so, I'm waiting until it flows to my PC automatically in mid-April.

The creme de la creme of Socket 939:

Things went a bit wacky when I first installed. Restarted first, then one user loaded up, did a bit of web surfing etc. Worked fine. I did a switch user so they were still running in BG, found that after logging in loading all components took ages (I don't have a lot of extras running, AVG, couple of updaters etc). Opening multiple windows of explorer would not open extra taskbar buttons, and minimising everything would lead to the taskbar button not going to the taskbar but floating above the start menu and not responding to clicks.

After a restart this was fixed and did not reoccur. Haven't noticed SP1 running any different to before. I don't use network drives or any devices that aren't speed limited by the memory card access of device itself so can't comment on any improvements there.

I found that using Vista before SP1 was an enjoyable computing experience, but installing SP1 has made it so much better. Performance is so much better - logging in is faster, unlocking the machine is much smoother, file transfers have improved and they've reduced UAC prompts in some cases. Overall I'm chuffed with the update and it's definitely recommended.

avg happy, forgot to disable 1st but was ok.
Ty Xpuser / wombat for the heads up, the auto update didnt show any signs of letting you know sp1 was available.

I've also found that SP1 improves boot time. One slight 'problem' was that, on my desktop I used Windows update with no problem - downloaded & installed in less than an hour, however on my laptop Windows update would not register that SP1 was available, even after checking all latest updates & drivers were installed. I ended up downloading the standalone installer & updating from there, however this took in excess of 5 hours (left it overnight). Seems to have installed ok & no other problems, but definitely a bit wierd.

Installed SP1, Turned on Classic desktop (If I wanted it to look like a Mac I would buy one), turned off the warnings I go every time I started a non Vista approved program. Now it's running like a decnt version of XP-Pro
