How do I go about restoring my Dell Inspiron?

Dell / Inspiron 531

Specs: Macintosh
We have had problems with this computer since we got it but recently it decided to revert back to Windows 98. Mind you all the programs for Vista work but it looks like an old computer. Also a window has just popped up that says Windows Explorer is not responding and that windows is checking for a problem. What in the world could possibly fix this "thing"?

hi i updated my sons inspiron1501 which always was a laughing stock from his mates as it was a so slow and didnt like opening up.first formatt it.reinstall, then go to pu servce tag and they will give you upgrades/updates.the bios will proberly be one.i think they say there is a order in which todo pop off to amd and do same .amd have a nice media player too all free.thats the basics done.then ram and hd.If you got a 64bit then download ubuntu.from its site again free. use a program like drivermax to keep them tiptop and techtracker by to keep programs up to date.hey presto all is gravy. hope this helps
