How do I explore another hard drive that has an OS on it

Dell INSPIRON 1000
December 22, 2011 at 09:03:06
Specs: Windows Vista Home Prem, Intel
unlike above thread, I can see the hard drive (external) when I look in Computer and it shows the amount of free space (just over 1 G) Running Vista on main computer and the borrowed external HD was the C drive on my previous computer which has XP Pro on it. Would like to see the files and pics and save some of them for future use. When I click on it get message "this folder is empty" Have the same problem with the 2nd HD which was in the same computer operating as a 2nd HD available for storage. Moderator-unsure of catagory.

If it's connected using a USB enclosure, windows should give it a drive letter. Is it doing that?

Yes, Thanks. Hard Disk Drives (3) Local Disk (H:) 1.94 GB free of 28.6 GB
then when I clk on it....I Get...File Name, Date, Type, (no size)
the file name is combo fix and is not very big at all. When I clk on the file name....
It takes me back to the drive list and shows Local Disk H Size and file system NTFS
down at the bottom of the screen.

Could this possibly be a part of the problem ?
" If the CF was formatted as FAT32 or NTFS they will not be seen " ?

vista as well as xp can read both file systems no problem so that is not a issue.

combo fix is a utility. try going to a picture file and opening it.

also google taking ownership of files and folders for the how to gain access to the files.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

The only thing I see in this window is " Combo Fix " When I clk on it nothing happens. There are no pictures, folders, or files, visible to clk on. Computer window still indicates this drive is 98% full.
