Reply: (edit)You need to be more specific than "disk error". If you can't boot off a CD, then it suggests you have other problems. "Enough, enough bowing down to disillusion! Hats off & applause to rogues & evolution! The ripple effect is too good not to mention. If you’re not affected, you’re not paying attention!"

Reply: (edit)You are using too old a version of Partition Magic. Before doing ANYTHING make sure you can procure the XP drivers for your Vista laptop. No drivers means you will turn you laptop into a boat anchor with XP Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Reply: (edit) *** NOTE *** The ONLY versions of Partition Magic which are Vista-compatible are the 8.x-and-above versions.
Both XP and Vista contain partitioning/formatting utilities built into their installers, so it is no longer necessary to prepare the HD before beginning installation with either OS. Additionally, I suggest that the user NEVER use third-party partioning utilities with either OS, UNLESS he ABSOLUTELY has NO WAY of backing-up his existing data before installing the OS. Reply: (edit)Instead of erasing and repartitioning the hard disk, I suggest you remove the hard disk with Vista on it and buy a fresh hard disk and install xp on it. Hard disks are not expensive nowadays. this way you will have a spare hard disk with a ready OS. Regards suatcini
