how can I get system restore to work in vista

Specs: Windows Vista, intel dual core
Windows Vista Home Premium-SR does not make automatic restore points. Task scheduler says always completed successfully but never shows up in restore center. Manual makes restore points no problem, but all are deleted within 24hrs. Shadow copy set @ C:/ 10GB, D:/ 900MB. I have changed vssadmin from minimum to unbounded with no change. Task scheduler has been reconfigured every way it can be with same result. Again, task scheduler says scheduled points are being made twice a day-startup, and 4:30 pm. Problem seems to be something other than scheduling. I have tried every thing available to me but no luck. This has been going on for over 3 months, hundreds of posts, I've even had to pay for advice that didn't work. I'm hoping this can be my final stop. Derald H in MN

I had the same problem with an Acer laptop running 32-bit Vista Home Premium . The problem went away after I uninstalled Acer Arcade and switched off the Windows Media Centre is Startup. Not sure which one was the culprit though.
