Don't know what you have, did you right click on the fix & hit > Merge.

Then reboot.

First of all, you say you are using Windows 7 but you are on the Vista forum.
Which is it?

It is important to get the the fixes from the appropriate website.
This link is for Vista but they have a link on there for Windows 7 too:
http://www.winhelponline.com/articl...

I would try the LNK fix first and if necessary the EXE fix. Do NOT Run the file but Save it somewhere (desktop will do). You can either double click the downloaded file or right click it and select merge. You might have to right click the file and select "Run as Administrator". Finally, OK all the prompts. File association registry changes should take immediately. although there is nothing lost by restarting afterwards if you wish.

If either of these fix the problem then the next step is to check for viruses (likely cause). As a minimum run your AV, and also MalwareByes from here:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_m...

If possible fix the reported problem initially. as this could make any malware easier to remove.

Yep, I remember Tufenuf well - he was a very good helper but hasn't been around for a few years. By the way, it is NOT the REG fix that you need. It will say if the LNK or EXE files have been successfully merged.

If the merge is not working, can you say what file you downloaded, what you did and the exact error message that you got please?

So after the lnk_fx_w7 came up, it opened a window next to it that says "windows registry editor version 5.00". What do I do from there? did I miss a step somewhere in btw that?

I see that they give you a zip file on that website, which might be creating confusion.

Delete the downloads you have and go here instead:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...

Download the LNK fix for starters. This is a reg file which should be ready to Save and then merge. If it doesn't, give me the details on what exactly happens.

Do it exactly as given in #10 above please.

You should not have to mess with Task Manager or open the Regedit screen. I rather hope it did no harm.

Idk if it's the Task manager or the clicking on the link in #2 and doing the saving as described, but again, once I started deleting and uninstalling items downloaded today, one of them being deleted and uninstalled, caused everything to return to normal. I can be happy right? and not worried?

Not sure what you did but fine but we ought to at least do a quick check for Malware, as this often causes LNK issues.

Download MalwareBytes and Save the file somewhere. Double click the saved file to Install it, Run the quick check using the icon (update it first, as it will tell you).

Get it from here:

If you do #15 and follow it by a quick scan with whatever virus check you have onboard, it will give us a bit more confidence. Let us know if anything is found.

It doesn't sound as if you caused any harm (if that's what you mean).

OK, well we'll assume it was a just a glitch if it found nothing at all.

Thx for the update.
