Specs: Vista Home premium
Really fed up with compac laptops i have 3 and my newest ones have hadd 3 HDD fails between them, Toshiba or sony in future> After my latest HDD fail i went to re-install os, software, and drivers using recovery disks but i have mislaid/lost them for my Presario C700? After spending money on more poorly made cheap products< (which failed again) i have bought some quality but now HP want £35 for a disk i should of had with my machine? Is there any way of getting installation software free or they got me by my short and curlies again?

Depends. It may be possible to recover data from the drive using some live cd tools maybe.
Recovery media may be on the old drive.
Not sure it is the drive even. How did you test to prove that?
We can't blame HP if you lost or didn't make the recovery disks.

Could try a linux, bsd, haiku-os OS instead.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
