having problem booting my dell inspiron lapto

Specs: Windows Vista, 3gb
My laptop is suddenly having problems booting up. The initial BIOS screen appears, offering F2 setup and F12 Boot Menu options, but then a black screen with

a blinking cursor shows up and I am unable to do anything. I've tried selecting both the F2 and F12 options during the initial run, but I still just get the

black screen with the cursor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The F2 setup and F12 Boot Menu options only work when you press those keys immediately upon seeing them appear on the screen. It's too late when that screen has gone.

In any event, neither of those options will fix your current problem. You need to do a factory recovery. Then, if the same problem still exists, your hard drive may be failing and will need testing with the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS. You can test it yourself, the links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm...
