This issue came up when I tried to use Project 64 (Nintendo 64 emulator) on my computer.
I installed it 3/4 months ago, used it quite a few times, no problem.
Then recently I tried to use it and received an error message:
Direct 3D failed to initialized
Error Code: 8876086A
D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLEI guess this means my plugs in have not inlialized.
I run dxdiag and I can see:
DirectDraw Acceleration: Not Available
Direct 3d Acceleration: Not Available
AGP Texture Acceleration: Not AvailableI haven't done anything to change these settings, so why would these be turned off?
I use a NVIDIA Geforce card, and it is enable d with the latest driver installed.
As I said, I used this programme before, so why would these be turned off and how? More importantly, how do I rectify this?
I know with Vista you can't turn on/off hardware acceleration.

System restore (restore point) might be the place to start.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10
