Get Rid of Some Processes?

Specs: Windows Vista, 4GB
Hey, my windows vista hs about 100 processes running at start up and CPU is always around 10-20 percent when im sitting at desktop Physical memory is around 40%.
I understand Vista has a lot of s--- on it but is there anything i can take off to reduce the amount of processes that really are not necessary. Lately when i play my games my ping is around 80-100 but my frame rate drops to like 1-10 and its like almost a frozen screen...Been playing these games for a year now on this laptop and never had any trouble is it possible for my vid card to stop working randomly?

For advice on what system services can be safely disabled to conserve resources, go here:

Also of importance is keeping control of your Startup Items as each one grabs a portion of RAM for itself - and many of these you actually don't need to have starting with Windows. Almost everything you install these days seems to create a new startup item. I'm horrified when I visit some computer friends too see an endless row of icons in their system trays.
