Bought a new ACER Aspire 5920 laptop for christmas, has been working fine until now. Now when switched on it goes through the set-up procedure as normal but once this is finished it freezes. I can only exit by pressing the off button. It works fine in "Safe Mode". The only difference I can think of is that Norton Free 90 day trial came to an end on the day this problem started.

Boot into safe mode and uninstall everything to do with norton if that doesnt work you may have to reformat your laptop with the OS disc or insert a recovery disc.

Or boot into Safe Mode and perform a System Restore to a date just before the freezing started.

Thank you for your help, I ended up having to do a disc to disc recovery to completely reset the comp. However I now can't connect to my wireless internet connection, I know i'm using the correct security key but keep getting the message "Windows cannot connect to actiontec" when I diagnose I get the message "The wireless authentication settings on this computer do not match the requirements of this network" I have changed all the settings I can find to match those on my router. My laptop will connect to other unsecured networks and my desktop will connect wirelessly to my router so I don't know what the problem can be. I've tried to change my router setting back to unprotected but this just crashes my desktop for some reason! I'm using Windows XP on my desktop and Vista Home Premium on my laptop The Actiontec GT701-WRU is quite old but it worked on the laptop no problem before my system restore. Do I need to buy a new router?
