Solved Freeware firewall that works with Vista firewall.

Specs: Windows Vista
Hi,

I am 'looking' for a freeware firewall that is compatible and works together with the Vista firewall to strengthen it, not just Vista only.

Have recently read on the internet that the Avast Firewall does that. But when I visited the Avast website I found out that 'they' do not provide a freeware version.

Do have the Private Firewall installed and running with Vista firewall turned on and no conflicts.

So my question is, and to just to make it clear: can I get a freeware firewall that is compatible and works together with the Vista firewall to strengthen it?

Thank you for your patience in this matter and I do look forward to receiving a reply soon in the future.

From

Mr Berwyn H Price

P.S. Please note: I am aware of 2 freeware programs: Tiny Wall and Windows Control. But both are not firewalls!

As you say TinyWall is not a firewall in it's own right but it does allow you to block any inbound or outbound traffic using the Windows firewall, so it does strengthen it. I use it and it is just fine. I only allow traffic for things I use and block everything else - hard to beat.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I use MSE AV & the Windows firewall with a strong password on my router.

Outbound filtering is available in Windows Firewall from Vista on.
Click Start, Copy & Paste > wf.msc into the Search box and hit Enter. Left click on wf to open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on Local Computer.

Why do you want something to work with or "bolster" the Vista firewall?

What is useful about programs such as TinyWall freebie is that you can control the Windows firewall both ways with a very simple interface:
