What is your purpose in formatting your laptop ? To re-install Vista or another OS or to let your laptop remain formatted, ready to install something at a later time ?

If you want to re-install Vista from scratch, pop in your Vista DVD and restart your laptop. Boot to Vista DVD. Choose Install Vista and then advanced options.

Remove the partition and then remake the partition. During Vista install, your HDD will be reformatted along the Vista install process. No special steps necessary on your side.

Regards
