Comment:

From time to time, when I use flash (either watching a vid online or my kids are playing games) it will freeze.

I have been getting the Adobe flash player updates. Still the random freeze will occur.

I also would like to know what's the best thing to do when my whole comp is frozen (I just unplug the whole thing and restart XD).

So... any tips or suggestions to help solve this issue is appreciated!! Thanks for your time. Let me know if I need to be more specific or give more info.

Start at event viewer.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

I would check to see if there any driver updates for your compaq at their site that might resolve the issue or windows update.
