Hey all,

I have a machine connecting to the domain. It belongs to a category in Active Directory which will take the "My Documents" folder from the computer and store it at \\server\userfiles\username . But, when the user is at home and clicks the documents folder, everything opens since its stored on the computer itself as well. The location of this reads the same as if attached to the domain, how? where is it really?

thanks for the help!

... found this just by a http://www.google.com search

"...is there a way to make Active Directory to move all fies saved on user's desktop to a defined space on active directory specified for each user. where those specific files would be deleted from the USER's desktop at the end of each day (while being kept on the active directory hdd)

"...Open Active Directory Users and Computers and right click on the User selecting Properties. Click the Profile tab and in the Home Folder area, select Connect. Give the drive you want your user to see ( I normally use H for Home) and the UNC of the share on the server where the files will reside (i.e. \\server\userfiles\username).

Every time the user logs into the domain, the network you specified will be assign. This is true on any domain computer.

On each computer, log in as the user and set their My Documents path to be H:\. Do this by right clicking My Documents and selecting Properties. In the Target box type: H:\

Now... every time they save to My Documents, it goes to the server instead of their computer.

You can redirect their desktop to a network share but to the user, they don't know its a network share.

On a Domain Controller, Click Start and select Run: In the Open box type:

GPMC.MSC and then press Enter.

Goto the Action Menu and select EDIT.

Under User Configuration\Windows Settings\Folder Redirection\Desktop redirect their desktop folders to their H:\desktop folder.

Any time they save to their desktop, its really stored on the server.

If you don't want folder redirection, under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Desktop\Active Desktop you can restrict them for storing anything on the desktop forcing them to use My Documents which is their Network Share.

***** ******

"...Not really by using AD, but you can schedule a task to run that would copy all the files to another location (Hard Drive) on the server. They if the users of the workstations are connected to the Domain and are Domain users setup group policies to make sure they are not allowed to change/delete scheduled tasks."

... hope this helps!

Grrrr
