how do I convert a .indd file to .jpg or .bmp, or how do I open it

Get Adobe's Indesign.

Or tell who ever gives you them to use a common format.

I don't know of any other opensourced app that will open it.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, Make an autorun.inf folder on all usb drives.
