When I plug my phone into my computer by the USB, a notification pops up saying that it has failed to install the MTP device driver. How should I go about fixing this?
Did you install the Samsung Software ?
Here are the instructions on connecting your Samsung Wave GT-S8500 phone to Kies. 1. Close Kies
2. Remove phone and USB from PC
3. Select Samsung Kies under Settings > Connectivity > USB > Samsung Kies
4. Press and hold menu button on the phone > select 'end all applications'
5. Connect phone to USB
6. Connect USB to PC (I am running Windows 7 64 Bit)
7. Windows will automatically install MTP driver and opens up its own window to manipulate the contents of the phone
8. Now start Kies --> it will now recognize the phoneDone!

Was able to connect to Kies using your advise, i.e., 'end all applications', etc. but I followed this up with upgrading the firmware. After doing that, Windows automatically recognized the phone but Kies has not been able to connect to it. I've been able to download files from my phone to my PC through the windows software. While that's nice, I'd like to be able to use Kies.
