explorer & windows mail stops working

This happens 1-3 times a day... everyday! I'm on the Internet and all of sudden I can't connect anymore. When ths happens my Windows Mails does not connect. My Internet connection is working & my computer is working... something is making my computer freeze up when trying to connect. Sometimes when I go into Task Manager and this happens there will be 2 "iexplore.exe" opened and I cannot close them - wondering if this has anythign to do with it??? Any ideas on what this could be? I 've run the malware, virus, scan, etc... nothing is coming up. Thanks for the help!
