Excel Paste Problem

Specs: Vista, 3326 MB

I am preparing a report using several .xlsx files. Periodically, I will paste from 1 excel to another and the paste won't work. From that point on, my formatting in the main excel is lost. I can reopen the excel. It says "Excel found unreadable content in 'September 2008 Report Card.xlsx'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? ..." If I click yes, my workbook opens, but the formatting is gone. Otherwise, I can't open. This is a very large report and this has happened 4 times. I don't want to keep reformatting. This isn't difficult formatting, just shading, boxes, sums, divisions, dates and lines. Any ideas? Is the excel just corrupt? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Pam

and copying from a workbook should have no effect on formatting of that workbook or worksheet.

perhaps you are using the "Cut" command instead and if so, don't. Use the Copy command.

Before using the Copy command make sure you have the second (target) worksheet open so that the copied item will be on the clipboard when you attempt to paste it into the second/targeted worksheet.
