OS: windows vista home p
CPU/Ram: Intel 4 2.4/ 1.5 GB
Model/Manufacturer: Homemade
Comment:

Vista froze up so i reinstalled it.I lost the driver's to my ethernet card which is built in.I've tried Asus web site, who produced the motherboard. No good.Had no drivers for vista to match 3com card. Then i thought to buy a PCI ethernet card but can not find one that will state that it can work with vista. What's next? Thanks for any ideas.

You need to go to the system properties, hardware manager. See the details of the adapter. It should show an icon to show you it isn't working. See the details. See a line like this.
PCI\VEN_10B7&DEV_9200&SUBSYS_00C71028&REV_78\4&8537DD&0&60F0

Your ven is the maker of the card.
Your dev is the version.

Linux people post that stuff.

Then go find that on the vendors site normally.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

You shouldn't form a habit of reloading Windows after the machine becomes unresponsive. That occurrence is a given with any OS. Although, it should be rare to minimal on a Vista capable rig. In computing, a reinstall should be the very last resort & should only be considered after you've explored & exhausted all other solutions.

Now getting back to your network adapter driver issue. Can you post your system's specification? What motherboard is in the machine?

Try the generic Marvel drivers for it & run Windows Update once you are connected to the internet. Windows should then find a more appropriate (optional) ethernet driver for the integrated network adapter.

- From the Device Manager, right-click on the Network Controller & choose “Update Driver Software”.

- Choose “Browse my computer for driver software”, followed by “Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer”.

- Under the Manufacturer section, choose “Marvel” & under the Network Adapter section, pick “Generic Marvel Yukon Chipset based Ethernet Controller”.

- If you get an unsigned driver warning, just ignore the disclaimer & proceed with the driver installation.

Try that & see if it helps, it should.

I went to device manager and vista took my hand and found what was needed and installed it.I didn't have to download a thing. The bad thing is i'll never know what caused vista to slow up and freeze up. Got my fingers cross right now. Thanks again.
