DVI to HDTV occasional blank screen

Comment:
I hoooked up my alienware laptop to my new 1080p HDTV using a DVI-DVI cable and with windows vista on the laptop (clone mode 1900*1080). I have no issues when all I do is show the desktop, browse the internet, play music. When I attempt to play video however, the HDTV screen blanks out occasionally for 1 second. It does this frequently enough (at least once every 30 seconds) to be annoying when watching a DVD. I suspect this has something to do with Vista's DRM which shouldn't be affecting a DVD content? Anyone come across this problem?

Some HDTV sets have HDCP (Hi-definition content protection)enabled. If your Notebook does not have HDCP integrated video card, that could be the reason why you get occasional blank screen. Although the video content may not be HDCP encoded, still the TV set and the Notebook may be trying to communicate with each other periodically and this could cause a slight hesitation. Check your TV and Notebook manual if HDCP is the source of the problem.
And also there is the interlace-progressive complication. You want to watch movies in 1920 by 1080p ( p means progressive )format. Check your video card properties to see if there is a 1080p adjustment. My video card, which is Sapphire Radeon x1600 pro, has such an adjustment.
