I have Vista Enterprise installed on a generic P4...

I would like to dual boot it with Vista Home...

Hi,

Would you mind explaining your rationale for wanting to dualboot Vista Ultimate & Vista Home? The reason I ask is that everybody else dualboot different operating systems, like Vista with XP, Windows 2000, Linux or Windows 98 but never with two members of the same family of Windows. Are you sure you still want to do this?

You can partiton your drive (there are many ways of doing this), set active your second partition and install Vista Home on that partition, make the Vista Enterprise Partition active again and then modify your boot settings to boot both drives. Try searching on the internet to how to modify your Windows Vista Boot Settings. I am more familiar with Windows XP Boot.ini and I'm pretty sure Vista doesn't have that anymore.

Hope That Helps :).

Oh, BTW. Why do you want to dual boot the same operating system with both of them having limitations because of their edition? Why not just install Vista Ultimate and get EVERYTHING! Media Center, BitLocker, etc!

Ok...legitimate questions...

There is a LOT of info out there on dual booting Vista and XP...can;t find anything on dual booting both versions of Vista...

Here's why...I'm a help desk tech for a company that is starting to evaluate Vista Enterprise...we may be moving to it in another year or so...so we need to start learning...

I also have a small free lance business that supports home users...and some of my home users are now buying new Vista computers...for them it's Vista Home...

I have set up maybe a dozen Vista Home machines and I am waaaay behind in the learning curve...I gotta catch up...

And in my readings, I get the impression that Vista Home and Vista Enterprise have some very significant differences, but I do not know what they are...

One of them would be joining a domain, for example...

I have a small domain at home, SBS2003, so I can play with both versions either in or out of a domain...

If I can dual boot, it will probably save me from installing Vista on 2 different boxes so I can play with both...

Thanx your help...

Look HERE for Windows Vista feature comparison. To wit, Vista Ultimate has everything that Vista Home editions have.
