Dualboot issue - winload.exe
Name: caliche Date: March 7, 2007 at 05:59:49 Pacific OS: XP SP2 CPU/Ram: P4, 2.4GHz, 384RAM Product: OEM
Comment:
I'm trying to install Vista on a separate partition (partition 2 of disk 1). I currently have XP on partition 1 of disk 0. I run the installer from windows, it goes all right, reboots, finishes the installation, reboots again, then I get the Vista Boot Loader and then an error saying that winload.exe can't be found or it is corrupted.
I've tried again a couple of times with no luck. Haven't found much on google either.
Any ideas? Note that partition 1 of disk 1 has important information i can't risk.

edit: I have 1,25GB RAM, for some reason, it still shows 384MB.

Can't you move your important data from partition 1 to partition 2, then try installing to partition 1?

Also where does it show 384MB RAM? BIOS or just in Windows?
If it's being reported to Windows that it has 384MB RAM, then this could probably cause errors, though it'd usually say it was out of memory rather than reporting that a file can't be found.

I'll try installing it to partition 1. Although it'll basically be remove xp and clean install Vista.
@Alex2002. No, here on computing.net, RAM shows 384, even though I already updated it on MyComputing.net.

Nahhh...
Oh you mean moving stuff from partion 1 to partition 2 on the second drive. Well, I can't, partition 1 is bigger than partition 2.
I'll try installing it to partition 2 on the first drive, even though I don't see why should I do that. It's supposed to be as simple as installing and setting up the bootloader....
