Hi,

Looking for some help splving a problem I am having with a leftover dual boot choice.

I loaded Vista in a dual boot setup with XP with both on different drives. After a few days I decided to go with Vista and I removed it from the second drive. I then performed a clean install of Vista on the XP drive.

Vista moved all existing files to windows.old. Once I loaded Vista I deleted the .old files.

Upon reboot I still had the option of choosing which operating system I wanted to boot into. But, this time they were both Vista.

One of the choices takes me into Vista, while the other leads to a screen indicating that that particular installation doesn't exist.

Is there a way to get rid of the dual boot choice?

Thanks

IMO, you should have stuck it out with the dual boot until Vista becomes more mainstream.

"I then performed a clean install of Vista on the XP drive....Vista moved all existing files to windows.old"

That wasn't exactly a clean install then.

I used the uninstall method mentioned on this site when I removed Vista beta from my system...I don't know if it applies or not. I know Sabertooth stuck with it so I'm sure he's knows more about it, I only ran it for a few weeks.

Hi Jam,

Ya, it was my original intention to run a dual boot for quite a while, but I didn't have any problems with Vista. In fact, I have less compatibility issues with Vista than I did with XP when I first installed it a few days after release.

I may change my mind in a few weeks, but right now I like Vista.

I have had RTM (pretty much retail in disguise) on this machine for close to 3 months now & besides the minor (driver) issue with my seemingly older Audigy card (resolved couple of weeks back), I don't seem to have nearly as much the pernicious loathing going around for the OS & I don't intend to remove it.

My plan is to comprehensively migrate to Vista albeit incrementally over an extended period of time, thus allowing me to wean myself off XP without much vulnerability.

Where'd ya get RTM? From the leaked version that was being passed around the torrent sites?

"Connect"ing with M$ was another way, if you have an account.

However, since RTM was released there has been several (with some still running) promos for Vista giveaways - you just got to be aware of them ;-)

Is it just me? I think M$'s dominance over our digital life & expense is getting worse. Any software & devices sold without the Certified for Windows Vista is not good enough for Vista.
