What is the make/manufacturer of the camera ?

In certain instances, the XP drivers work for USB cameras in Vista installations. Did you try them ?

When you first click on the .exe file, that file is most probably extracted somewhere on the HDD. Find the location and point to that location when you are asked the next time.

Or conversely, you can extract the contents of the .exe file with winzip, or 7-zip or with another similar file-extracting program. Then you can connect your camera to the usb port and go to Device Manager. There you will see your usb camera device with an yellow exclamation point. You can update the driver and point to where you extracted the .exe file.

For your information, I have a web camera ( not similar to your camera ) from Creative. Creative does not develop drivers for this webcam for Vista. I used XP drivers that were developed in 2004, long before Vista release. They work quite well.

I think I am not clear in my explanation.

Find an unzipping program, such as 7-zip. Install 7-zip and then find your .exe file. Right-click the .exe file and select extract files.... This will extract the files to the folder where the .exe file is located. If the .exe file cannot be extracted, you will be notified about it.

Once extracted, do as I already answered above. If the .exe file is not extracted, I have no answer.

Response to post #6: No. I do not mean to say that we can extract any kind of .exe file. Not all .exe files can be extracted.

Response to post #7: Is there any .bat file or .cmd file in the folder of the extracted files ?

I searched thru the internet for Sony SN92C201 camera but could not find anything.

Is it a camera for taking pictures or video camera or what ? In my country Sony does not market web cams.

Did you try to contact Sony for the drivers ?

Can you give us the exact model name ?

Further to my post above, are we talking about Sony Vaio notebook with an in-built webcam that you wanted to upgrade from Win XP to Vista ?

By the way, where did you get the .exe file that extracted as DotNetInstaller.exe along with .dll files ?

If you visit the web site below, do you see your webcam listed ? Maybe we can find a way to reach the drivers.
