... is it a SATA (Serial ATA) hard drive?

... if so find driver for SATA controller

... it dos'nt help "NOT" posting the model make number etc

... you're not helping your self.

... press F6 when you see the message at the :
“Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver"

... so that the SATA hard disk can be recognized

"...pentathol makes you sing like a canary"
... got brain freeze

A Tech Savy guy should know all that ;-)

What you should have done was kept Vista, repartitioned the HDD, then installed XP on the 2nd partition. Assuming this is an OEM system (Dell, Gateway, HP/Compaq, etc) & that you didn't wipe out the hidden recovery partition, I suggest you reinstall Vista, THEN install XP afterwards, creating a dual boot setup. Finding XP compatible drivers for your Vista hardware *may* be least this way you'll have an OS to use in the meantime.

I agree with jam. In addition, I suggest that when you have the computer back to factory condition that you also create the Vista restore set. If nothing else you may need those to sell the computer when that time comes.

Could set bios for sata to IDE.

I might have left Vista and used a Virtual machine unless you are playing games or special apps.

Also might need to slipstream xp to sp3 to get full drive space support.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
