Hi,

I'm thinking of installing windows VISTA. Wondering, i have a sata raptor drive, will vista automatically detect this or do i still need the drivers from manufacturers website? Also i'm just a home user, tho i hear the business version has more security....best to go with this? I mainly just play games, and do work with it.

Hard drives DO NOT need drivers, the SATA Controller Chip does need a driver though and VISTA supports most of the currently available.

Almost (if not) all SATA boards out there today support the SATA controller operating in IDE mode - if you check your BIOS & set it accordingly you won't need to load any auxiliary SATA drivers when installing your OS (including Vista).

Hey

well when i try to reinstall windows xp pro version on my home pc, installation required to load additional SATA drivers or it cannot detect the drive. controller chip or drive....lol which ever, don't need to be technical, but it still needs a driver to install. I'm wondering if VISTA needs the driver also or will it include it in installation, eg no need to have on a disk and install the additional driver during setup.

Well i did a scan, this is my motherboard,

Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 v2.0

My hard drive is
WDC WD740GD-00FLA0 (69 GB)

For some reason tho when i try to do a reinstall, it wants to load additional drivers or it just does not detect my hard drive...and thats another problem..i cannot find the drivers for it! I went to manufacturers website...only 2 drivers under this model number, both do not work. I want to do a reinstall, but i find it hard to find all the drivers i need to do it! Eg chipset, sound, etc! Video i can at least find..the rest im no good at it tho lol
