doc file won't open

When I download a file, if it is a doc file I cannot open it. A box that asks if I want to open or save pops up and when I say open it just pops up again. the same thing happens when I try to save. any ideas?

Normally one needs a program that opens that format. If you don't then consider openoffice full install or a portable edition. Might also look at abiword. "Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
