Comment:
Trying to stop the screen dimming when going to another program.Got as far as:
Run:secpol.msc.
Local Policies.Security options.User acc ctrl.
Don't know which one to disable. Help please!

My guess is: you got stumped because you have Vista Home Basic or Home Premium. Keep in mind, this does involve trading off some security, but still possible nonetheless.

Found the answer in a Magazine.
(Have Vista Ultimate by the way).
For anyones info, follow the orginal post.
One from the bottom it says:
'Switch to secure desktop when prompting for elevation'.
Thats it, Disable and the screen no longer dims.
These guys at redmond must be really original in their thinking, 'When prompting for elevation',(what does that mean in the real world)) must be on another plane than us mere mortals. Vista is indeed a 'Steep learning curve'. Enjoy messing around with it. Old faithful, is my other Comp with XP. Bless it's little cotton socks!!!
