Although i can connect wirelessly through my laptop which is how i am online at the moment. Any ideas what the problem is? Would really appreciate any help. Thank you :)

Could be a virus. Try an online virus scanner.

Could also be that file system on part of your hard disk is damaged.

Try SFC /SCANNOW from a command prompt with administrator privileges. Then CHKDSK /R /F.

I can't use an online scanner as i can't access the internet. The command prompt wouldn't allow me to run anything even as an administrator. So had go into My Computer and run a disk check. After about an hour and a half it has just finished and restarted and the problem is still there. Any other ideas?

This is what you say. Therefore, I thought you could do online virus scan.

You can download F-secure portable virus scanner on a flash disk and run it from there.

Get it here for FREE.

I booted into safe mode and tried to run the free scanner you provided. It wouldn't even let me run it at all. So i booted up normally and ran it and it couldn't find anything. Thanks for all your help so far..

Run MSCONFIG and Open Startup window. Disable any startup program that may look like Virus program. Restart Windows and see if you can now run a complete virus scan with updated virus signatures.

This means your AVG virus scanner now works ?

Maybe we are in the wrong arena, groping our way.

By the way, did you do a registry cleanup or something recently or installed a program that might have possibly damaged registry entries ?

No i mean i used the free scanner you asked me to use earlier on, AVG still won't let me open it or update or anything. Actually i do rememember running CCleaner a few days ago i believe. But i didn't make a backup of it or anything.

Can you try to uninstall AVG and re-install it or try to install another free antivirus software called Avira Antivir Personal ?

If everything goes well, this may indicate you do not have virus in your PC. Then you may try to restore your PC to a time before you ran CCleaner. CCleaner is supposed to do no harm but who knows ?

I restored my computer using system restore. The problem i had is gone and i can now access the internet. But now AVG is playing up, the tray icon wouldn't load at startup and it's in the MSCONFIG startup list. I then tried uninstalling and it gave me an error code, i also cannot download any other exe files, that also gives me an error when i try to run them.

You can re-install AVG over itself. Do that and see if the issue you have is gone.

What is the error message you are getting when you attempt to download .exe file ?

I've tried downloading the AVG installer again. The error message is something like..Windows cannot run Win32 applications. So i can't run any exe.programs.

Try booting to a live cd, such as the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. You could run an antivirus or antispyware scan that way. Some of the other tools might also be useful.

Try a repair installation of Vista. That should do you good if you have no virus in your system.

I downloaded the file for the Ultimate Boot CD. Went to burn it, and it said the file was 0kb. But i had just downloaded over 200MB worth of it! I don't know what is wrong with this blooming pc!

What is the exact file name of your downloaded file with the extension ? It seems the file you downloaded is not for Microsoft Windows.
