desktop is not working

every time i turn on my computer my desktop is being showed, the problem is that i can`t do anything at the desktop and my shortcuts is gone to what do i do????

See if this works:
Right-click the desktop, Arrange Icons By, Show Desktop Icons

Another solution you can try:
Try pressing control+alt+delete
enter new task(run)
then type in explorer.exe

Let us know if it works, if it doesn't you probably have some viruses on your PC that will have to be removed.
