Desktop icons gone crazy

after a reboot the desktop icons all migrated to the left side. they are on top of each other and won't drag and drop anywhere. also right clicking and rearrange does nothing. If i uncheck auto arrange it lets me move them but whn it is rechecked they go right back. Is this a virus?
