I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron notebook, and after installing security software (NAV, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spywareblaster) and doing the Microsoft Update, the desktop icon for ISP dialup changed to generic.
The icon still works (I still use a 56K ISP), but obviously does not look very good on the desktop of this brand new notebook.
Is there a way that the original desktop icon can be restored? Or am I forced to look at this ugly generic desktop icon for the rest of this notebook's life?

Just to provide more clarity to my inquiry, I'll rephrase my question.
Is there a way that the original desktop icon "image" can be restored?

Ask your ISP to upload Favicon.ico to your desktop then right-click on the icon to change to it.

Thanks for responding.
When you speak of "uplaoding", are you saying that my ISP could send me an email with a Favicon.ico attachment, which I would then save to my desktop?

That's the concept. Be aware that ISP generally don't send favicons via e-mail upon user request. You need to be very persuasive to get it. I'm with Verizon and the Verizon icon on my desktop certainly don't resemble their logo.
Let's face it. Many users don't care about the artistic design of the icons because as long as every icons are named and all shortcuts work why should it matter.

I thinks we are talking about 2 different things here.
I should have been more clear.
The desktop icon image which changed to generic was the Windows Vista dialup/network desktop icon.
Can this image be restored?

Now I am lost. Exactly what icon is it? Does it look like any of the icons that you see in the Control Panel?

I just found a solution...I was able to change the icon image by right-clicking and then selecting..."properties"..."shortcut"..."change icon".
