I'm fed up with Vista and set out to back up my files so I could reformat the HD and install XP. I was copying files to a mem stick and delete those files from the Laptop (why I bothered I have no idea). I saw a folder with driver files in it and copied it over and then deleted. BIG MISTAKE! Now I can't even reinstall the Vista drivers not try installing XP because drivers are missing.

Any ideas out there? Much appreciated.

The computer God has granted me a reprieve; my Dell laptop is now firing on all cylinders this morning. I was really preplexed as to why today when yesterday it looked like my goose was cooked. I came to the brilliant conclusion that it simply ran out of power. I recalled that when I moved the laptop from the living room to the computer room (spare bedroom) I simply unplugged the power supply. Apparently the battery power only lasts for a short while and it only had enough juice to start the boot-up but not enough to finish the process. I feel like going out and celebrate but, instead, I'll simply chalk it up to a leaning process and go take a nap.
