Delayed font during email messages

Specs: Windows Vista
When I type an email message out the letters are very delayed before showing up on the screen. They appear jittery. In other words it takes them awhile to appear, or I'll type with no letters showing and suddenly they'll appear, or I'll type and expect the letters to appear but they won't appear at all. At that time I'll have to go back to the point of where they letters stopped showing and start all over. Most of the time there seems to be a significant delay before the letters show. They'll catch up ... I'll type a little more then then delay thing will start to happen again. It's only in my email on "msn" ... what could be causing this? I'm typing fine here on this forum but it's a chore to type when responding to or writing messages on msn email.
