A lot of people say that they will never upgrade to vista. just looking at a random newegg pole showed 40% said they never would. lets assume that a person uses their computer for a bit of every thing, some games, videos, music, photo editing, and office work. if they upgrade their pc them self and contiued to upgrade software. particualy games(as they are the most demanding) when do you think vista would be forced on them. loss of dirver support of xp or just that xp can't handle the memory loads that vista can. some games now need at least 1 gb. soon that will double. as i can see a reson for a 1.5 gb

i think that if we go by upping the mem reg for games once each year then its four years untill we hit 4 gigs.

am i wrong or will 64 take over by than.

any ideas?

it will 'be forced' upon buyers of oem PCs by the end of this month ... xp will no longer be an option for oem PCs (except some stock clearance sales maybe).

it will 'be forced' upon gamers as soon as it comes to directX10, which will not be made available for windows xp (for some "technical reasons" :-).

and the rest of us ... well, i don't envy ms the task to talk us out of xp and into vista, because brute force as with the above clientele will hardly work.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

XP has had such a long run more so then any MS OS that many people that have bought a computer within that 5 years reign won't upgrade unless they buy a new pc that comes with it installed. The majority of avg pc users that already upgraded to a new pc since XP came out have prob upgraded within the past year again and that means that system came XP. The avg pc user upgrades to a new pc ever 3 to 4 years. So if this is the case, then you are looking at the migration to Vista for the avg pc user not until the 3rd or 4th year of Vista's lifespan. MS missed that 2005 target date where the avg pc user would have got a new pc since XP came out and now that may hurt their Vista sales for the next 3 to 4 years.

I've been patient with MS but have really had it with the force tactics they use. Now they're making it a pain in the butt to reinstall XP, so you have to call every time to get a new ID number. I paid for the software, and have used it legally, so if I want to reinstall it every month that should be my business and without the hassle they're forcing on us now. Windows Vista, pfffffft. Never thought I'd say this, but Macs are looking pretty good.
