We use a database program to enter certain things and connect a mapped network drive to our server. Everything saved with the database program gets saved to the mapped network drive on the server.
Most of our machines have Windows XP Pro but we purchased a Windows Vista Business machine and now the database program we use, will not load. It starts loading, then crashes. I am under the impression that a new security feature in Vista is blocking the program's connection to the mapped network drive as the program starting properly depends on proper access to the network drive (found that out under XP).
Any ideas what security feature is blocking my access and how to turn off or dumb down the feature to regain access? When I double click on the mapped network drive under Computer (My Computer) I can see the files on the server.
Thanks
Dan

would you mind telling us which data base program you're using?
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

If you can access the data from the mapped network drive, it most likely isn't a security setting pertaining to accessing file shares.
I'd look more at the program itself.
Are there any events in the event logs, specifically app and sys logs that coincide with the crashes? If so, copy and paste the complete messages.
Also, you could try right clicking the shortcut for the db app, click the compatibility tab, and choose XP SP2 compatibility mode.
If that doesn't work, you should right clicking the shortcut, and select "Run as Administrator".

Never mind folks.....it was a really stupid mistake on my part...
I didn't have drive mapped at all really. It had no drive letter assigned to it.
My bad.
Dan

Thanks for not blaming Vista prematurely. :-)
