There is a Windows update that is related to Intel CPU with a family range equal to or greater than 6.

This update is not supplied through Windows Automatic Update service but should be downloaded manually and applied proactively.

This update is for both Vista and XP and some other versions of Windows.

The update number is KB936357. Subject line is:A microcode reliability update is available that improves the reliability of systems that use Intel processors.

You can download it at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936357

Please read the Knowledge Base article before installing. Application to wrong CPU range causes inability to boot in to Windows.
