I am recieving a replacement machine from HP the new Cpu has Vista installed are there still ways to use the XP software with the vista machine. I have multiple games that would like to keep playing I.E. Battlefield 1942,vietnam. unreal 2003 & 2004

xp and vista are written if diff language.
however, if those games are stand alone and don't need system files to run, they should play on vista.

check on the game makers' website and see if they have any patches for the games

Even if there are patch available, it will not convert existing software to the new Windows platform. You need to either upgrade or buy the latest version compatible with Windows Vista.

You shouldn't have a problem installing & playing the above listed games in Vista, but you better make sure your Vista machine has enough RAM to begin with.

That is why vista has a option that you can install the above games on the computer, and then right click on the icon and then go to properties and then click on compatibility mode and then list below it should give you a option to run it in xp mode.
