Hi is there a way to convert an NTFS file system in Vista to Fat32? This is on my Acer laptop. I am trying a project with it trying to put the recovery partition back on. I read that it could be done but the drive had to be FAT32. Acer shipped it with FAT32 I know because I remember it being FAT32. I already have the PQSERVICE there first partition and it is hidden it is now EISA configuration. Maybe someone can help. I have tried a partition program and it would not convert I am sure this can be done because Acer did it.

Thanks

... only the recovery partition needs to be FAT for it to work

... sorry if I am misreading your post are you wanting to resize your Vista partition (smaller) then create another partiton of FAT32 for a NEW recovery partition?

Thats not what I want to do. I have made the PQSERVICE and have the files there needed for recovery. I am wanting the C drive that has the Vista install I want to convert it to FAT32.
Acer shipped the laptop with all partitions FAT32. There was the 1st Partition PQSERVICE then there was 2nd C ACER then there was D DATA. The PQSERVICE is hidden but if it was visible it would be F.

"...then there was 2nd C ACER..."

... I would of thought that it would of been shipped with the Vista os running? ... but new being new and Acer being Acer and a project being a project... if thats what you want!

... if you post the Acer model number etc maybe there's a utility one could download from Acer that'll do all that for you including the MBR so that you'll still be able to use the restore key functions

... meanwhile here is a free formating plus Download software which may be of interest.

You can't convert to fat32 only to ntfs.

You have to use ntbackup with system state then reload the os and delete partition and make it a fat file then apply restore.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, Make an autorun.inf folder on all usb drives.
